The first phase of the Chineham Community Games Area (targeted at children aged 13-18 years) was implemented in mid 2010 and comprised a covered outdoor ball games area, a short BMX track and various items of play equipment.
There was always an intention to deliver more facilities within the games area and the facility was laid out in such a way so as to accommodate additional equipment/facilities. However, it was felt appropriate to monitor the usage and impact of the first phase before committing to any second phase.
Since it was first built, the facility has proved to be hugely popular with the young people of Chineham and the surrounding area. The second phase of the project was completed in early 2014 and includes:
- Additional play equipment
- An extended BMX track
- A youth shelter
- Two new side by side zip-wires
- Additional litter bins landscaping works
- A new footway link to the games area from the footbridge over the A33 (completed)
Feedback to the plans for the second phase was sought from users of the Games Area and the wider community before work began.
A new footway has also been installed linking the games area to the footbridge over the A33 through Great Binfields Copse.
An additional bonus is greater access to the beautiful bluebell display each Spring.
