The Parish Council has been contacted by several Residents who are concerned about the vegetation and the weeds in the Brook and the effect that this has on flooding and their household insurance.

Both clerks recently met with a representative from Thames Water and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. It was established that Thames water are responsible for the Brook and its condition up to Mattock Way and then Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council take over responsibility through Long Copse.  Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council are responsible for any vegetation that grows on the bank.  It was agreed that both parties would take responsibility and clean up their various sections of the Brook. Thames water has agreed to clear the sections with a health and safety risk to the residents first such as the areas that are adjacent to a play area.  The walls which are crumbling are also due to be repaired.

If you see any areas of the Brook that need clearing please report these to the Clerk who can forward this information onto Thames water. However, when we walked along the Brook we noticed various items dumped in the Brook, part of a bed, a broom handle, a litterbin frame and a tree  just to name a few. Please this is an asset that brings joy to a lot of residents and we need to do our part in keeping it clear or Thames Water may just close the Brook and pipe the water through. This is a potentially a more cost effective approach that to be honest none of us want to see them do so please do not use the Brook to dump rubbish in

We are aware that the environment Agency has written to some Residents informing them that where they live is prone to flooding. This is something the Clerk is taking up with The Environment Agency so if you have a copy of the letter could you please let the clerk have a copy.

The Chineham Parish Council agreed new plans for the allotments as amended by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council; these can be viewed on our website, the plans have now been submitted for planning permission.

The Parish Council has learnt that the planning application by Croudace to realign Cufaude lane has been agreed despite our objections to the plans.

Every month the Chineham Parish Council meeting Agendas are placed on the notice boards prior to the meeting as well as uploaded along with the minutes of the meetings to our website, however, if you do not have access to the internet and would like a copy of the minutes then please contact the Clerk who will be able to supply you with a hard copy via the post.

There have been a number of instances where private adverts have been stuck to the outside of the Parish Council Notice Boards.  The notice boards contain important, informative and legally required notices relating to Parish, Borough and County Council services and these notices cannot be read due to either the adverts or marks of the adhesive tape residue. We would ask that the Parish Council notice boards are not used for private notices in future. However, local events held within Chineham can be advertised on the Parish Council Web site if requested via the Parish Clerk (contact details below).

If you want to contact any of the Parish Councillors you can contact them via the clerk or Assistant Clerk

The Parish Council is here to help the residents of Chineham so if there is a Chineham issue you are concerned about, please feel free to contact the Clerk, Karen Ross on 01256 474500 or email clerk@chineham.gov.uk or the Assistant Clerk, Eunice Jones on 01256 324345 or email assistantclerk@chineham.gov.uk during office hours only please.
