Setting the annual precept
Chineham Parish Council raise the bulk of the money necessary to meet their expenses with a precept (a mandatory demand) issued on Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. Under the Council Tax legislation, the precept covers our needs for the ensuing financial year which, by law, runs from 1st April to the following 31st March for all local authorities. Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council collects the amount precepted as part of the Council Tax levied on the Council Tax payers in the parish.
At the Full Council meeting held on 12 December 2016, it was unanimously agreed to request a precept of £37,000 for 2017/18 from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. It was noted that the Parish Council would also receive a Government grant for the Council Tax support Scheme of £1019. This equates to a contribution of approximately £11.75 per annum for a typical Band D property. It should be noted that the remainder of the Council Tax levied on a property results from the Borough Council, County Council and the Police and Fire authority levies.
